EXTRAORDINARY RECONCILIATION FRIDAY Sometime in mid-June, the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, a Heart on fire with mercy, His Eminence would like to offer our people the opportunity for the sacrament of reconciliation as the return to Sunday Mass becomes imminent, perhaps on the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, June 19. As soon as we settle on a date, we will let you know. In early fall, we have two additional events in mind: a memorial Mass for all who have died during the virus; and an ecumenical service for the heroic witness that our medical and emergency professionals have given.

The NYC Health + Hospitals (H+H) has partnered with NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) to launch the city-wide tracing work as part of COVID response. The City is working with a firm to hire these tracers and it has been noted that we have not yet had applicants from some of the neighborhoods hardest hit by COVID-19. In order to ensure equity in our tracing team’s outreach to NYC communities, we want to actively engage residents in Bronx neighborhoods to fill these tracer roles. Therefore, we’d greatly appreciate it if you could assist with our tracer recruitment effort. The new hiring link: nyc.gov/traceteam. Please send resumes to [email protected] to prioritize resumes that are received through this channel.
I have good news! Every family will receive $420 for each child enrolled in New York City public schools to offset the cost of lunches that students are eating at home that they would have received for free in school. The food benefit, which is part of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, will be issued in June. If you already have an EBT card, you'll receive the funds automatically in early June. If you don't already receive food benefits, you will receive a notice from the state in the mail explaining when and how you'll receive your food benefit, which should come through in late June. You can find more information on the State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance website. If you need more food assistance in the meantime, you can find free grab-and-go meals at more than 400 sites in the city every weekday. We've also compiled a list of food assistance resources on the parents' coronavirus resource hub on the UFT website.
The novena in honor of the Holy Spirit is the oldest of all novenas since it was first made at the direction of Our Lord Himself when He sent His apostles back to Jerusalem to await the coming of the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost. It is still the only novena officially prescribed by the Church. Addressed to the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity, it is a powerful plea for the light and strength and love so sorely needed by every Christian. Join the Piarist Fathers at St. Helena Church in the Bronx, New York as we pray this special novena, especially to end the world-wide COVID-19 pandemic. The Novena will be prayed, beginning Friday, May 22 at 7PM EDT in English and 8PM EDT in French. The ZOOM log-in invitation for the two separate novenas is given below.
