Bernard Wood was born in Harlem in 1950 and attended St. Aloysius Church and later studied accounting at John Jay College. He was a partner in Bernie’s Sweet Shop on Third Avenue in the Bronx. He was also a wholesaler of men and women’s clothing, and he took over his father’s taxi cab business. He married Barbara Ann Barker in 1980, and he was an active parishioner at St. Helena. In 1981, he started his career with the New York City Transit Authority, from which he retired in 2007 and then worked as a Bus Operator for the New York City School Bus Company until it closed in 2014. He had a son and two daughters, and three grandchildren. After a brief illness, he went home to the Lord on August 1, 2016. May he rest in peace.
